Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 400 g Kadayif fresh (shredded phyllo dough)
  • 150 g butter, melted and cooled Use unsalted butter for best results.
  • 60 g finely chopped pistachios or walnuts Choose your favorite nuts.
  • 400 g sugar
  • 400 ml water

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by making the syrup. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water, then bring to a boil. Once it starts boiling, reduce heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes until slightly thickened. Add a splash of lemon juice to balance the sweetness and set it aside to cool.
  2. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  3. In a baking dish, spread a layer of melted butter to prevent the Kadayif from sticking.
  4. Take half of the Kadayif and spread it evenly across the bottom of the dish, using your hands to gently flatten it down.
  5. Sprinkle the finely chopped pistachios or walnuts over the Kadayif layer, distributing them evenly.
  6. Top with the remaining Kadayif, pressing it down gently to secure the layers together.
  7. Pour the melted butter over the top layer, ensuring it’s well-coated.
Baking
  1. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 30-40 minutes or until the top is golden and crispy.
  2. Once baked, remove the Kadayif from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot dessert. Allow it to absorb the syrup for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use high-quality ingredients for the best taste. Allow the syrup to cool properly before pouring for better adherence.
