Flavor Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup fresh cranberries Dried cranberries can be used if fresh aren’t available.
  • Zest of 1 orange Adds vibrant flavor.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream Keeps scones moist.
  • 1 large egg For binding.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds warmth.
Topping
  • sprinkle of sugar Optional, for added sweetness and crunch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and blend until small, pea-sized crumbs form.
  4. Gently fold in the fresh cranberries and orange zest.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the cream, egg, and vanilla extract, then pour it into the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead gently just a few times, and pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick.
  7. Slice the dough into 8 wedges and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Sprinkle sugar on top of each wedge if desired.
Baking
  1. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  2. Allow to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Using cold ingredients leads to flakier scones. Serve them warm for the best taste.
