Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) to ensure even baking.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and then mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined. Avoid over-mixing to keep your cookies tender.
- Fold in the chocolate chips (and optional nuts if using) until evenly distributed in the dough.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about two inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden but the centers remain soft.
- Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a couple of minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a thicker cookie, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. Store cookies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week, or freeze them for longer storage.
